Russia and China’s Top Diplomats Met in Beijing

Russian and Chinese diplomats discuss global and regional cooperation.

October 20, 2023

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met Foreign Minister of People’s Republic of China Wang Yi in Beijing, China to discuss regional and global developments as well as to address Russian Chinese cooperation and collaboration in different platforms. Lavrov and Yi addressed the bilateral positive developments in the relationship by praising the positive dynamic of Russian Chinese comprehensive interaction.

The top diplomats of two global powers also addressed the regional and global issues and developments such as the development of Eurasian Economic Union and China’s Belt and Road Initiative, as well as the ongoing war in Gaza. Russia and China highlighted the close coordination between these two countries in global or regional platforms such as Shanghai Cooperation Organization, UN, UN Security Council, G20. Russia and China also follow similar policies in the Israel-Hamas war.

China condemns Israel by saying that “Israel should stop collective punishment of the people of Gaza” and Russia’s President Putin remarks that “an intensified siege of Gaza by Israel may resemble that of Leningrad by German armies during the second world war, a reference likely to cause deep offence in Israel”. Both Russia and  China appear to be pursuing similar policies in this chaotic global political atmosphere where cooperation and collaboration are desperately needed.
