The tension rising in neighboring nations as Israel-Gaza conflict wages.
October 27, 2023
Not even one month into the war between Israel and Hamas, and tensions are flaring up throughout the Middle East region. The West, in particular the United States, were swift to voice political support of Israel (with US officials openly and decisively blaming Iran for the conflict breaking out, and appealing to Israel and the world to allow for humanitarian aid to be delivered to the Palestinians).
However, as the conflict escalates and lives remain deeply impacted on both sides, the neighboring countries surrounding Israel-Palestine must weigh in to preserve their own interests or else the war will begin to directly and irreversibly impact them within their borders as well. Border towns in Lebanon which saw casualties in the past are braced for more violence yet again. In Jordan, Queen Rania accused the West of having a double standard view towards the conflict. However, it should be noted that Jordan and Egypt have both urged displaced Palestinians not to seek refuge in their countries.
