Welcome back to World Brief, where we take a look at the unfolding drama of India’s pivotal elections, fraught with tension and the quest for truth amidst a backdrop of shifting political landscapes.

Prime Minister Mr. Modi came into office in the year 2014. There have been numerous changes within the nation that also led to the violation of Freedom of Speech. However, with the upcoming elections in the country (19th April’24 to 1st June 24), the citizensĀ are able toĀ speak their truth.

With the opposition of Mr. Gandhi, there seems to be hope for the people of India and the country herself. The nation is horrified, which is the basic outcome of the Modi government. Many journalists, writers, economists, andĀ historians, have been at it with all their strength to show the world the reality of how India is surviving.Ā

A well-known writer, Salil Tripathi said, “With India’s election in full swing, Narendra Modi is getting desperate – and dangerous.” Ā Given his recent campaigning and lectures, it really shows how desperate and dangerous Mr Narendra Modi is getting just to win the third term; especially the one done in Rajasthan where he says by twisting and exaggerating the words of former Prime Minister Mr. Manmohan Singh,Ā that allĀ the money, gold and investment belongs to the Muslims.

This reference was to a speech made by Singh in 2006 that was about India’s development priorities. He explained his statement by identifying the resources (water, agriculture, health, etc) and the marginalized communities, i.e. women, children, Dalits and minorities, “particularly” Muslims, that they should be “empowered to share equitably” the benefits of the development of the nation. Ā

It is also claimed by Mr Rahul Gandhi that the BJP will “tear apart” and “throw-away” the Constitution if it returns to power; it is also experienced by the mere citizens of the nation. The differences in the living and earning standards within the nation have drastically transformed and all the thanks the nation is giving for this is to Mr. Narendra Modi.Ā

Modi’s aim (an illusion) when joined the elections back in 2014 was to show the nation that he was a changed man and not the same Chief Minister of Gujarat. During his time as the CM, thousands of people at a communal program, Muslims, were massacred (year 2002) which he completely denied; however, a British government report found him “directly responsible” for not stopping the killing.

His campaigning word back in 2014 and 2019 were that he would lead India towardsĀ vikas, or growth; to which he has failed badly. The government fed on the weakness of the religious mentality of Indians. Religion and faith are very personal institutions that should not be disrupted just because of somebody’s hatred, immaturity and greed. The BJP tactically attacked this institution of not only Muslims but also Christians and Sikhs living in India, even Hindus by provoking such hatred.

Such differences between class, caste and religion have been experienced in India during Modi’s government up till now has led to hate crime and speech.Ā  India is a diverse and democratic nation. After the 1947 freedom from the British era, the nation was well known for its diverse culture and welcoming atmosphere, democratic system and the freedom to speak one’s mind. After 67 years of freedom, from 2014, Narendra Modi has twisted and turned all the progress that India had made towards its growth as a nation and as a sanctuary for its citizens.

This year’s elections are one of the most important and awaited, as was the year 1947. The fear of losing democracy, freedom and rights is brewing inside of every Indian at the moment.Ā
